Terms of Use

Effective date: July 29, 2026 · Last updated: July 29, 2026

1. Acceptance

By downloading or using Fude ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Fude is operated by Karim Ghezali ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@fudejapanese.com.

2. What Fude is

Fude is an app for learning to write Japanese kana (hiragana and katakana) stroke by stroke, with handwriting recognition, guided practice, and audio pronunciation. Fude is provided for educational purposes.

3. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Fude on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the App Store Terms of Service.

4. What you may not do

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app; reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code, except where permitted by law; or use the app in any unlawful way or to infringe others' rights.

5. Purchases

Fude offers a free tier and a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks full content. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms. Prices are shown in the app before purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple according to App Store policy; we do not process payments or refunds directly.

6. Intellectual property

The app, its design, and its content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Stroke-order data is derived from KanjiVG (© Ulrich Apel), licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0; the corresponding derived data is distributed under the same license, is published in unencumbered form at https://github.com/karimghezali/fude-kana-data, and attribution is provided in the app. All other content and code remain our property.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change, or discontinue the app or any feature at any time. We aim to keep the app working but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

8. Disclaimer

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the handwriting recognition, guidance, or any content is error-free or fit for any particular purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including certain rights you may have as a consumer in the EU/EEA).

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have in your country of residence. Disputes are subject to the competent courts, subject to any mandatory rules that apply to you as a consumer.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app evolves. We will post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
